Trump's bold proposal: Canada as America's 51st state

"I would like Canada to be the 51st state," said Donald Trump, promising residents they need not worry about rising tariffs, taxes, or military protection. This isn't the first time the U.S. president has reached toward his northern neighbour.

President of the United States, Donald Trump, reiterated on Friday that he would like Canada to become the 51st state of the USA.

In a conversation with journalists before travelling to North Carolina, where the hurricane caused significant damage, Trump stated that if this were to happen, "Canadians would receive much better healthcare and would no longer have to worry about military protection or high taxes." The statement was made around 3 p.m. Eastern Time.

"You would have better health insurance," he assured, while also promising Canadians growth and the ability to move business without worrying about high tariff rates.

Trump has repeatedly mentioned his wish for Canada to merge with the United States. Recently, on his Truth Social profile, he published a new map of the USA. In conversations with the media, he often claims that the United States "subsidizes" Canada.

He also threatened to impose a higher 25% tariff rate on imports of goods from Canada or Mexico. The Canadian government announced that it will protect its citizens.

"There is not the slightest chance that Canada will become part of the United States," responded the outgoing Canadian Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Party, Justin Trudeau, to Trump’s recent remarks.

"Workers and communities in our countries benefit from being each other's largest trade and security partners," emphasized Trudeau in a post on platform X.
