Sunscreen is essential all year round
Fall is a time when we typically put aside sunscreen. We think that since there's no direct sun or its rays seem gentle, there's no point in using it. However, this is a mistaken belief. Even though the sun isn't as intense as in the summer, ultraviolet radiation still affects us. This is true even on cloudy days or indoors, where we are exposed to different stimuli like screens. Therefore, a broad-spectrum SPF sunscreen is crucial for protecting the skin from harmful UVA and UVB radiation.
It's not just a matter of health, but also aesthetics, because when we stop using sunscreen, the structure of our skin can deteriorate. Hence, its importance in anti-wrinkle and anti-aging treatments. Sunlight accelerates the breakdown of proteins such as elastin and collagen, which results in the appearance of the first wrinkles. Moreover, sun exposure can cause skin cancer, discolouration, allergies, and dry skin. The skin on the face is much more delicate compared to the rest of the body, so SPF 50 or SPF 30 sunscreen is a "must-have."
How to use sunscreen?
Dermatologists recommend using sunscreen all year round as part of your daily skincare routine, especially when planning to leave the house. It also works well as a base for makeup. When applying it to your face, ensure it is evenly distributed. Instead of rubbing, it's better to pat it in to avoid irritation and improve effectiveness. Just apply half a teaspoon of the product to the entire face, and the effect is guaranteed. During the day, it’s good to reapply it to prolong its protection. If you have makeup on, a good alternative is an SPF mist.
In the fall and winter, it's worth choosing a cream with moisturizing and regenerating properties that will act as a protective barrier against dry skin. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, or ectoine will definitely help with this.
