Stellantis pauses Italian production as demand wanes
The Stellantis group's Italian factories are experiencing a challenging period. To make matters worse, the group's authorities have decided to temporarily halt production of some models due to weak demand.

The decision is surprising as the pause will also affect the plants producing the Panda, a long-time bestseller for Fiat. Unfortunately, the latest facelift version has become significantly more expensive, resulting in a noticeable decline in customer interest. In August 2024, only 3,873 units were sold in Europe, compared to 6,505 during the same period in 2023.
It's worth noting that Stellantis has already suspended production at the Mirafiori plant in Turin, which manufactures the Fiat 500e and two Maserati models. This pause will last at least until November 1st.
Further, more plants will halt production: Pomigliano d'Arco, Termoli, and Pratola Serra. According to a statement published by Stellantis on October 16th, the shutdowns in these factories are scheduled from November 11 to 29.
The interruptions are due to insufficient demand for the mentioned models and intensifying competition from Chinese manufacturers.
