A state of emergency was declared in the Kursk region on Wednesday, August 7th. The region's acting governor, Alexey Smirnov, announced this on his Telegram channel.

The information appeared on the second day of the Ukrainian forces' attack on the territory of the Kursk region, which is located near the Ukrainian border.

The Russian agency TASS reports that fights are ongoing at the border using helicopters.

Earlier on Wednesday, Smirnov reported a missile threat. He said that several thousand people were evacuated from the border region, all mass gatherings were cancelled, and blood donation actions were being organized.

Despite this, he added that "the situation in the region is under control," reported the Lithuanian broadcaster LRT on its portal.
