Russia's long game: Plans to continue Ukraine war until 2027
Russia is preparing to conduct war in Ukraine until 2027, reports the UNIAN agency, citing Andriy Kovalenko from the Ukrainian Centre for Countering Disinformation.
Russia is gathering resources to conduct the war in Ukraine until 2027, said Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Centre for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, as cited by the UNIAN agency. Kovalenko analyzes Putin's statements, the work of the Russian military-industrial complex, and Russia's economic potential.
"The Russians are doing everything they can to derail the process and blame Ukraine for it, while preparing resources to continue the war," added Kovalenko. He noted that the Russian president can only be forced into negotiations "by force," and this must be done by countries supporting the Kremlin, including China.
The role of China in negotiations
"If China is drawn into this process and is not on Russia's side, Russian rhetoric will change, as they will not be able to sustain the intensity of the war without help in circumventing sanctions," assessed Kovalenko.
In a report published at the end of December, the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) noted that Sergei Lavrov "explicitly rejected two suggestions reportedly considered by US President-elect Donald Trump's team in early November 2024 as conditions for ending the war in Ukraine – the delay of Ukraine's membership in NATO for 20 years and the deployment of European peacekeepers in Ukraine."
Gen. Keith Kellogg, chosen by Trump as the special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, admitted that both countries are exhausted from fighting. "hink of a cage fight. You've got two fighters, and both want to tap out. You need a referee to kind of separate them. I think President Donald J. Trump can do that," Kellogg said in an interview with Fox Business.
