Royal children set for mandatory military service under new UK plan

Young members of the royal family heading to the military? All signs point to yes. The latest program regarding the reintroduction of mandatory military service in the United Kingdom will not even spare the royals.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are known for their deep love for their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The royal couple regularly emphasizes family's importance and strives to provide their kids with a regular, loving childhood despite royal duties. William and Kate are often seen during family outings, and their public appearances showcase the strong bond that connects them.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that mandatory military service will be reinstated if the Conservative Party wins the parliamentary elections. According to preliminary plans, young people will receive call-ups as early as September 2025. Interestingly, several options will be available. Teenagers can join the military full-time for 12 months, join the ranks of British cyber defence services, or volunteer one weekend a month for a year. The last option involves cooperation with organizations such as the fire department, police, or the national health service.

Although there will be very few exceptions to opting out of service, as the Daily Mail reports, William and Kate's children will not be exempt; if the project mentioned comes into force, Prince George will be the first young royal family member to undertake the service. This will take place in July 2031, when the boy turns 18. Princess Charlotte followed his example a year later, and, three years later, Prince Louis.
