The new Secretary of Defense of the USA, Pete Hegseth, is preparing for a visit to Europe. As reported by Politico, Hegseth will take part in the 26th meeting of the Ramstein format contact group.

It will take place on February 12 in Brussels. For the first time, it will not be led by the United States. The previous Ramstein meeting, which took place in January 2025, was led by the then Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

The administration of President Donald Trump has asked the British Defence Minister John Healey for the United Kingdom to take over the leadership in the group and convene the allies. The meeting on February 12 will be dedicated to the Ukraine Defence Contact Group.

Hegseth's visit is not the only significant event involving American politicians in Europe. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance plans to participate in the Munich Security Conference, which will begin on February 14.

This will be the first visit of a member of Donald Trump's administration to Germany. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed a willingness to meet with Vance if time permits.

Pete Brian Hegseth, the new Secretary of Defense of the United States, is a major in the Army National Guard and a veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Until recently, he was an American television presenter, associated for many years with Fox News.
