Rogers Centre's CAD 11M investment amps up 5G for swifties
Taylor Swift is currently the hottest pop music star (apologies to all Lady Gaga fans). Her concerts draw enormous crowds so that fans can expect impressive upgrades to arenas and stadiums.

The world still hasn't forgotten about The Eras Tour. In fact, Taylor Swift's biggest tour will be remembered for years as an event that significantly impacted the future of concerts. Major artists are already being compared to the American star—this happened to Billie Eilish, who faced criticism for having a "too short" show. Was it fair? Probably not, but Taylor set the bar very high.
There have been numerous reports about Swift's concerts, from the gracious behaviour of Argentinian airlines, which allowed fans to rebook tickets for free due to rescheduled concerts, to the record-breaking loud fans who caused seismic activity equivalent to a minor earthquake.
Swifties travelling worldwide for their idol are a boon to the economy, so it's no surprise many countries strive to attract them. They contribute significantly to the local economy by booking hotels, dining in restaurants, and visiting museums. Perhaps that's why Rogers Centre in Toronto decided on a grand gesture—investing eight million dollars, about 11 million Canadian dollars, into the stadium.
Better connectivity for Taylor Swift fans for only eight million dollars
Impressive, right? But what is the investment for? Will it be new, comfortable seating? Better screens? More parking spaces? No, none of these. The stadium in Canada is allocating eight million dollars (CAD 11 million) for a 5G network upgrade.
And all of this is for fans who want to live stream the concert. It's remarkable, indeed, but is it necessary? Perhaps if someone couldn't afford to attend the concert, they could at least follow it from home in good quality...
