Undoubtedly, winter is not the favourite season for car enthusiasts. Early sunsets, late sunrises, and slippery roads are just a few challenges that drivers don't face during the summer. Additionally, there's the regular task of removing frost from the windows and clearing snow from the vehicle. These chores can take several minutes each day.

Internet users worldwide support each other by sharing tricks to make daily life easier. Without a doubt, defrosting car windows is not a fun task, which is why people search for alternatives to traditional scrapers. However, caution is necessary with some methods.

American internet users have suggested using a plastic bag for defrosting windows. The bag should be partially filled with hot water for this method to be effective. After stepping outside, press the bag against the window and slide it along the surface. Some even pour water directly from a kettle, claiming it saves time and energy. However, this approach is a significant mistake.

The method that can be costly

Unfortunately, it turns out that this "brilliant" method is flawed. The temperature difference between the hot water and the frozen window is over 38 degrees Celsius, which, according to experts, can cause the window to crack. This situation can lead to high replacement costs. Some who experienced failures have shared videos on TikTok, warning others to avoid this solution.

Using water of any temperature to de-ice windscreens is not advised. Hot water will cause the glass to expand, which can result in it cracking or even shattering, and cold water can freeze on top of existing ice and frost. Both methods can damage your windscreen, sometimes beyond repair - said an expert in an interview with "The Express".

Dorry Potter also commented in an interview with the British "The Express". This expert from National Scrap Car stated that the best way to avoid defrosting is by placing a special cover on the windshield. She advised against unusual methods, like rubbing the window with a potato or an onion, as their effectiveness is practically nonexistent.

As temperatures drop the stress of heading out on time due to a frosty car is soon approaching, so it is important for motorists to make sure they are prepared ahead of time - Potter emphasized.

Importantly, windshield covers are a very cheap and simple way to handle frozen windows. You can find these accessories in popular stores for several dollars, and setting them up takes just a few seconds.
