Ridley Scott shared his long-term plans in an interview with French media, revealing details about the second film, which will be released soon.
"I'm already toying with the idea of Gladiator III. No, seriously! I've lit the fuse." The ending of "Gladiator II" is reminiscent of "The Godfather," where Michael Corleone gets a position he doesn't want and wonders what to do. The next part will be about a man who doesn't want to be where he ended up.
Meanwhile, Variety urges caution and reminds us that the fate of any franchise depends on the success of the latest instalment. How will it be this time? The director himself, which is no surprise, is thrilled with what he has created. He calls "Gladiator II" "one of the best things he's ever done."
He commented, "It's full-bore, brutal action." The trailer amazes viewers eager for the special effects, which were not as advanced years ago as they are today. The stars themselves also fuel the buzz around the title.
"Gladiator II"
The action of the new movie takes 24 years (a clever move!) after the events of the first "Gladiator." This time, Lucius Verus comes to the forefront. Paul Mescal takes on this role and becomes the titular gladiator, following in the footsteps of Maximus (Russell Crowe). Lucius is the Roman Empire's heir but has been living in seclusion for years. Eventually, he must appear in the empire's capital to confront his heritage. The film also stars Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Derek Jacobi, and Joseph Quinn. Canadian viewers will see "Gladiator II" on November 22 at 7:00 PM Eastern Time.
"Gladiator" from 2000 is available on SkyShowtime and Prime Video.
