Every summer, Canadians complain not only about the heat but also about mosquitoes. The warming climate makes these insects, which have been merely irritating so far, a potential additional threat due to the emergence of new species, such as the tiger mosquito.

However, we do not have to rely solely on traditional methods such as mosquito nets or less effective repellents. Technology comes to the rescue. An effective way to get rid of mosquitoes could be the Bzigo Iris device.

This equipment, developed by the Israeli company, does not eliminate mosquitoes by itself, but it has another advantage: it can locate mosquitoes.

Bzigo Iris - mosquito laser pointer

Bzigo Iris can detect and track mosquitoes in flight. When they land, the device marks their position with a laser pointer. Importantly, this solution works even when the mosquito takes off again and lands in another spot.

Regardless of how many times this maneuver is repeated, the mosquito will always be indicated by a safe-for-human-eyes laser marker. This makes it easy to eliminate using the electric swatter included in the set. If more mosquitoes are in the room, the pointer will move between them, showing each one in turn.

A significant advantage of Bzigo Iris is its efficiency regardless of the time of day and lighting conditions—the device handles mosquito detection during the day, at night, and under artificial lighting. Thanks to this, it can work well at home in any condition.

The core of Bzigo Iris's operation is a high-resolution camera and LEDs emitting invisible infrared light to the human eye. Thanks to unique image processing algorithms, the device can distinguish mosquitoes from other insects like moths and from floating dust particles.

Will Bzigo Iris be adopted in homes to deal with mosquitoes? It is difficult to predict at this moment. However, for technology enthusiasts, such a device could be not only a practical tool but also a fun gadget.
