The COVID-19 test conducted on Joe Biden on Wednesday came back positive. The American president likely contracted the virus during his stay in Las Vegas, where he participated in several events.

According to White House physician Dr. Kevin O'Connor, everything is improving. The infection does not prevent Biden from "attending to the affairs of the American people".

During his illness, the president is isolating in Delaware. According to statements from White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, the symptoms are mild. Dr. O'Connor explained that Biden has some upper respiratory issues and a runny nose, but no fever.

The doctor also assured that "with the president's permission," he will keep making updates about Biden's health. He explained that Biden received a dose of Paxlovid – a medication that reduces the risk of complications from a COVID-19 infection.

This is the 81-year-old Biden's second infection. He first contracted the virus in July 2022. Recently, he had a “common” cold, which negatively impacted his debate with his presidential opponent, Donald Trump.

The infection did not disrupt any of President Biden's plans, except for one appearance on Wednesday, when the information about his illness was released. After the visit to Las Vegas, he had planned to stay in Delaware, on the East Coast of the United States.
