This regulation will take effect upon publication. Prague District 1, where the historical city centre is situated, requested the ban.
The impact these pub crawls have on city life and its management prompted the need for change. Concerns were raised about nighttime disturbances, noise, litter, and the need to ensure public safety.
City authorities emphasized Prague's deteriorating reputation due to the constant presence of drunk tourists. This could negatively affect how the Czech capital is perceived by other visitors, potential investors, and residents themselves.
Prague District 1 has long struggled with issues related to alcohol tourism, which involves young foreigners visiting the Czech metropolis specifically to consume alcohol.
Overtourism, which refers to excessive tourist traffic in one city or region, is also a concern. According to official statistics, 7.4 million tourists stayed in Prague hotels and guesthouses in 2023, representing a 25% year-over-year increase.
