The editorial board of the influential liberal newspaper "New York Times" called on Friday for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the battle for the White House in the upcoming presidential elections.

In an editorial published Friday evening titled "To Serve His Country, President Biden Should Leave the Race," it was stated that Biden "on Thursday night (appeared) as the shadow of a great public servant."

"Mr. Biden has been an admirable president. Under his leadership, the nation has prospered and begun to address a range of long-term challenges, and the wounds ripped open by Mr. Trump have begun to heal... But the greatest public service Mr. Biden can now perform is to announce that he will not continue to run for re-election," the editorial stated.

During the Thursday debate, Biden often appeared lost, stammered, confused millions with billions, spoke quietly and indistinctly, sometimes didn't finish sentences, and stared blankly into space.

The "NYT" editorial board comprises the newspaper's leading columnists and commentators.

Previously, a similar view was expressed in the "NYT" by writer and columnist Thomas Friedman.

Biden assured at a campaign rally on Friday that he rejects the possibility of withdrawing from the race and intends to win the battle for the White House. He stated that although he doesn't perform as well in debates as he used to, he is capable of handling the duties of the presidency.

On the same day, Biden received support from his Democratic predecessors—Bill Clinton and Barack Obama- in the presidential office.
