Norwegian company halts fuel deliveries to U.S. navy in protest
The Norwegian company Haltbakk Bunkers is halting fuel deliveries for American armed forces in Norway and their ships calling at Norwegian ports. This is a reaction to Friday's events at the White House and Donald Trump's behaviour towards the President of Ukraine.
One of the largest Norwegian fuel suppliers — Haltbakk Bunkers — will no longer supply the U.S. Navy. This decision is a reaction to Friday's events at the White House, where tensions arose between Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and Volodymyr Zelensky. The Ukrainian President's visit to the U.S. ended with Trump expelling the Ukrainian delegation, breaking off talks, and cancelling the planned press conference.
A Norwegian blow to the USA
"No fuel for Americans!" announced the Norwegian company on social media. In their statement, representatives of Haltbakk Bunkers emphasized: "We witnessed the greatest g... show ever presented live on television by the president and vice president of the U.S."
"The refusal to deliver fuel takes effect immediately and concerns American ships calling at Norwegian ports," the company's statement stressed. The statement ends with the words: "Glory to Ukraine!"
Gunnar Gran, the owner of Haltbakk Bunkers, admitted that his decision may not significantly impact the American armed forces, as fuel is delivered through intermediaries.
– In 2024, we supplied them with about 2,998,000 litres. It’s simply moral support, explained Gran in an interview with the Kystens Næringsliv portal.
The Norwegian government reacts
Internet users report that the American submarine USS Delaware (SSN-791) had trouble refuelling in Norway and was forced to turn back. The Norwegian Ministry of Defence commented on the matter, admitting that they heard about the reports and that "this is not in line with the Norwegian government's policy."
The Norwegian Ministry of Defence assures that they maintain "close and strong defence cooperation" with the USA. Norwegian Defence Minister Tore Sandvik stated that "American forces will continue to receive the supply and support they require from Norway."
