Nicole Kidman reflects on mother's final words amid career buzz

Nicole Kidman was in Venice celebrating the premiere and success of the movie "Babygirl" when she learned that her mother had died. When the jury representative announced that Nicole Kidman received the Silver Lion for best actress, "Babygirl" creator Halina Reijn took to the stage to collect the award. The Dutch actress read a letter from the absent actress: "Today, I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after that my beautiful, brave mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, has just passed. I’m in shock, and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her. She shaped me, she guided me, and she made me," wrote the actress.

The last words of Nicole Kidman's mother

Less than a week after Janelle's death, Nicole and her sister Antonia published a joint tribute for their mother. On their Instagram profiles, a few family photos appeared along with the text:

"My sister and I along with our family want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week.

Every message we have received from those who loved and admired our Mother has meant more to us than we will ever be able to express. Thank you from our whole family for respecting our privacy as we take care of each other."

Now, in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Kidman confessed: "The final words my mama said to me, I was gonna get on a plane, and she said "Maybe wait a minute, because you just need to take care of yourself right now, Nikki.'"

The actress admitted that she took this advice to heart and now tries to remind others, especially women, about the necessity of self-care. "I'm doing that more, and I say that to other people in the world. Particularly, women, I think we tend not to care of ourselves. We take care of everybody else but the last person is here. My grandmother left me with 'Be happy' and my mother said 'Take care of yourself," she added.

These simple messages have become important life guides for her. After a difficult year, including her mother's death and a busy work schedule, there have been reports that Nicole and her husband, Keith Urban, are considering returning to their native Australia. There are also comments that Kidman should pay more attention to her career and not take on so many projects.

This year alone, three series featuring her have premiered: "Expats," "A Perfect Couple," and the second season of "Special Ops: Lioness" on SkyShowtime. Additionally, Kidman could be seen in the somewhat embarrassing Netflix production "A Family Matter," and at the beginning of 2025, the eagerly awaited erotic film "Babygirl" will premiere in Polish cinemas. Kidman has been garnering praise and nominations for this role. Recently, she was honoured with a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Drama. She faces strong competition. This year, contenders for the Golden Globes in this category include Fernanda Torres, Angelina Jolie, Kate Winslet, Pamela Anderson, and Tilda Swinton.
