New chapter for Shrek: Eddie Murphy confirms work on fifth film

Fans of the adventures of the somewhat grumpy ogre and his not-so-bright donkey friend have reasons to be happy. Eddie Murphy, the voice of the bumbling donkey, revealed that work on the next film is at an advanced stage.

For many representatives of the late millennial generation and early Gen Z, "Shrek" was a childhood fairy tale. Alongside Disney's animated films, the story about an ogre with layers like an onion became a childhood classic, one to which they would often return. "Shrek" had a quality that connected parents with their children - humour that amused the younger audience and the older one. Some of the double entendres are only caught when watching "Shrek" again, after many years.

Although it's hard to believe, the film's first part about the green ogre premiered almost 23 years ago. Canadian viewers can watch animations about ogres, magical creatures, the talking donkey, and the cat in boots from June 13, 2001. The children who dragged their parents to the cinema are now adults and often have their own families. So, will the upcoming "Shrek 5" once again unite families?

The information about the ongoing work on "Shrek 5" was revealed by Eddie Murphy. The actor voices Donkey, one of the most important characters in the animation. In a promotional interview for the film "Beverly Hills Cop" "We started doing [‘Shrek 5’] months ago," Murphy told Collider. "I did this. I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up."

Informants reveal that the original cast will return for the fifth part of the film, with Cameron Diaz as Fiona, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots, and Mike Myers as Shrek. Eddie Murphy also revealed that a Donkey movie could be expected, the production of which would begin after they finish "Shrek 5". When will the spin-off about the charming yet not-so-bright Donkey hit theatres? That is not yet known.
