NATO chief urges defence boost amid Russian hybrid threats
NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, warns of growing threats from Russia and its allies. During the NATO Military Committee meeting in Brussels, he emphasized the need to increase defence spending to ensure future security.
At the meeting, Rutte highlighted the burgeoning threats from Russia. He stressed that Russia, along with China, North Korea, and Iran, is engaging in hybrid activities such as cyberattacks and acts of sabotage aimed at destabilizing NATO countries.
Increased defence spending
Rutte noted that rising defence spending must address these threats. He urged that all NATO countries should intensify military exercises and boost the production of military equipment. "It's time to switch to a war mindset," warned Rutte, underscoring the need to prepare for future conflicts.
During the Brussels meeting, Rutte reminded attendees that in five months, the NATO summit will be held in The Hague. He emphasized that the Alliance's primary goal is to ensure citizens' safety by strengthening partnerships and enhancing defence capabilities. "My priority is that we do everything necessary as quickly as possible," concluded Rutte.
