MrBeast and team seas surpass ocean cleanup goals

The activities of MrBeast significantly differ from other influencers. The international celebrity uses his fame to do good. This time, along with the Team Seas organization, he managed to remove over 110,000 tonnes of garbage from seas, rivers, oceans, and beaches.

The popularity of influencers is steadily increasing around the world. Some have already surpassed the fame of actors, singers, and journalists. Their fans regularly buy products the creator recommends or creates in collaboration. Some even decide to participate in films created by these influencers to be closer to their new idol. Some influencers, having gained fame, focus solely on reach. Others, however, use their fifteen minutes to do something good.

The influencer, MrBeast, is an American YouTuber whose YouTube channel has over 303 million subscribers. Internet celebrities allocate a significant portion of their earnings to philanthropic activities. The YouTuber has already constructed wells in Africa and houses in South and Central America. To document his ongoing efforts, MrBeast established a channel, "MrBeast Philanthropy," with 25.5 million subscribers.

In 2021, MrBeast, together with former NASA employee and YouTuber Mark Rober, created the initiative Team Seas to clean oceans, rivers, seas, and beaches of garbage. To promote the project, MrBeast involved other online creators. The initiative also received support from DJs, music producers Tiesto and Zedd, and billionaire Austin Russel. The goal set by MrBeast and Mark Rober was to clean the waters worldwide of 75 million pounds of garbage (34,000 tonnes).

On July 16, 2024, MrBeast proudly announced the achievement of their goal. Thanks to the support of those who donated money to the TeamSeas initiative, the organization fulfilled its intended goal. On the project’s website, there is a counter that shows its current result. When writing this article, TeamSeas cleaned the world's waters and surrounding beaches of 75,138,802 pounds of garbage, 34,082 tonnes of waste. However, MrBeast does not intend to stop, as there are still hundreds of thousands of tonnes of garbage in the waters of oceans, seas, and rivers that need to be removed to ensure that marine life is safe for the fish, mammals, molluscs, and crustaceans living in the depths.
