Are social media not enough? Many of the most popular internet creators are increasingly partnering with television or streaming services. Participating in reality shows is no longer surprising, but only the biggest influencers receive offers to create their own programs. Among them is the American entertainment giant, MrBeast. The influencer, businessman, and philanthropist has teamed up with Amazon to create something entirely new globally.
MrBeast spent CAD 137 million on "Beast Games"
The show "Beast Games" is a collaboration between MrBeast and Amazon. The production is based on a well-established format of competitions organized by the influencer, where the best competitor wins a massive prize. This time, over a thousand participants will compete for one gigantic payout – CAD 6.8 million.
In a conversation with Logan Paul and KSI MrBeast, he admitted that the budget for "Beast Games" is CAD 137 million, including CAD 20.5 million spent on building a walled city from scratch, where the show's competitions will occur. Additionally, the "Beast Games" participants received a total of CAD 27.4 million. On the "Impaulsive" podcast, the influencer said: "We broke over 40 world records during the filming of Beast Games: the most participants in the history of television shows, the largest cash prize in the history of shows, and the most cameras recording simultaneously in a production. I could go on forever. If there's a world record for television shows, we've broken it."
MrBeast will "blow your minds"
The influencer said he would like to reveal all the production details: "I really need Amazon to tell me what I can and can't say. It will literally blow your minds. There are ten episodes, each making my YouTube videos look like child's play."
MrBeast and Amazon have been sued
Even before the premiere of "Beast Games," the series' production was accused of serious violations of labour law and ethical standards. In mid-September 2024, five employees filed a lawsuit against the production. The plaintiffs accused MrBeast of "creating a hostile work environment," including failure to pay minimum wages, overtime pay, sexual harassment, unsafe working conditions, and misleading them about the nature of the competition. The plaintiffs are suing MrBeast Amazon and the companies responsible for the production, including MRB2024 LLC and Off One's Base LLC.
The allegations are particularly serious. One journalist found information that on September 11, a production worker was hit by a piece of a tower that fell during filming. As a result of the incident, the injured person was taken to the hospital, where they remain.
