On Saturday at the Olympic Games in Paris, there was, among other things, a 4 × 100 freestyle relay. The gold medal was won by the swimmers from Australia. While commenting on the events at the Olympic pool, Bob Ballard made a controversial comment.
Well, the women just finishing up. You know what women are like … hanging around, doing their makeup, said Bob Ballard, just moments after Emma McKeon, Shayna Jack, Mollie O'Callaghan, and Meg Harris won Olympic gold and left the Paris Aquatic Centre.
Commentating alongside Bob Ballard on sports struggles, Lizzie Simmonds stated that his comment was "scandalous." Viewers' outrage was not long in coming. The heads of British Eurosport quickly reacted to the sexist words of their employee. The station decided to remove the sports journalist from commenting further on the Olympic Games and issued a special statement in the media.
During a segment of Eurosport’s coverage last night, commentator Bob Ballard made an inappropriate comment. To that end, he has been removed from our commentary roster with immediate effect, could be read in the station's statement quoted by "The Guardian".
