McDonald’s faces major lawsuit as over 700 UK workers file claims
Over 700 McDonald’s employees in the United Kingdom are accusing the company of harassment and discrimination. The lawsuit covers more than 450 restaurants and primarily concerns young employees. A BBC investigation revealed the irregularities a year and a half ago.
The individuals accused McDonald's of "discrimination, homophobia, racism, ableism and harassment," stated the Leigh Day law office in a statement. The case currently involves over 450 restaurants.
McDonald's sued by over 700 employees
McDonald’s employs over 170,000 people in the United Kingdom, most of whom are very young and hired based on civil contracts. Individuals under 20 years old at the time of the incidents can join the lawsuit, which was filed after a BBC investigation in July 2023.
The CEO of McDonald's in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Alistair Macrow, apologized on behalf of the group for the "clear shortfalls" in employee protection.
He also added that the company records one to two reports of sexual harassment by employees each week.
