Laser scare forces Nick Jonas off the Prague stage

Mass events come with varying degrees of risk, and both artists and security personnel are aware of this. Despite implementing numerous restrictions, dangerous situations still occur, putting performers, technical staff, and audiences at risk. Understandably, artists pay attention to even the smallest, unsettling signals.

On October 15, 2024, the American band Jonas Brothers performed in Prague, Czech Republic. The artists appeared at the legendary O2 Arena for their concert tour, "The World Tour. Celebrating Five Albums". During the event, a dangerous situation occurred. Shortly after Nick Jonas appeared on stage, an unknown perpetrator aimed a laser pointer at the youngest of the brothers. Social media circulated footage showing a characteristic red dot on Nick Jonas's face. The artist reacted swiftly.

For citizens of the United States, the issue of laser pointers or any kind of weapon is particularly sensitive. In a country where shootings occur frequently, everyone is wary of equipment associated with guns. It's no surprise, then, that Nick Jonas fled the stage. The situation looked genuinely concerning, and history has examples of concert tragedies, such as the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, where 23 people died and over a thousand were injured.

Footage shared on TikTok shows Nick Jonas signalling to stop the concert before escaping backstage with his security team. Interestingly, Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas remained on stage. As a result of the incident, the concert was paused for a few moments. The person who aimed the laser pointer at Nick Jonas was escorted out of the O2 Arena.
