Kursk region crisis: 2,000 residents' fate uncertain amidst conflict
28 towns in the Kursk region are under enemy control, and the fate of about 2,000 residents is unknown, Governor Alexei Smirnov of the Kursk region informed Vladimir Putin on Monday at 2:00 PM Eastern Time.
The fate of about 2,000 residents of the Kursk region, located in 28 settlements under enemy control, is unknown, Acting Governor of the Kursk region Alexei Smirnov reported on Monday.
The governor connected remotely with the President of Russia, to whom he reported on the situation in the region attacked by Ukrainian forces.
The head of the Kursk region reported that 180,000 people in the region are being evacuated. He also stated that as a result of the fighting in the Kursk region, 12 civilians were killed, and 121 people were injured.
Smirnov also informed Putin how far the Ukrainian forces have advanced. According to him, the depth of penetration by the Armed Forces of Ukraine was 12 kilometres, and the width was 40 kilometres.
The governor added that 40 kilometres of anti-tank trench has already been dug in the Kursk region to protect against the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Additionally, 90 platoon forts are being constructed on the order of the Ministry of Defense.
