Moments of terror at the Sandefjord-Torp airport in Norway as a plane from the Dutch airline KLM skidded off the runway during an emergency landing. A video of the incident has appeared online.
A KLM Boeing 737-8K2 was forced to make an emergency landing at Oslo airport after which it veered off the runway and came to a stop on the grass. The incident occurred due to a hydraulic system failure on December 28, shortly after takeoff, while the plane was en route to Amsterdam.
The airport has been closed until further notice. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Plane crash in South Korea
Let's recall that a day later, on December 29, a plane crash occurred at Muan airport in southwestern South Korea.
The South Korean Ministry of Transport described the crash as the most tragic aviation accident involving South Korean airlines in almost thirty years. There were 181 people on board, two of whom, as reported by Reuters, were Thai citizens, while the rest were South Korean. Emergency services present at the airport reported rescuing two people.
The head of the Muan fire department, Lee Jung-hyun, stated that investigators are analyzing possible causes of the crash, including bird involvement and weather conditions. The Yonhap agency cited airport information, suggesting that a bird strike might have caused the landing gear to fail.
There was also information in South Korean media about a message sent by one of the passengers to a relative, indicating a bird was stuck in the airplane's wing.
