Is water collecting in your refrigerator? You can easily solve this problem yourself. It will only take five minutes. All you need is a simple trick.

The refrigerator is one of the most important appliances in the kitchen. It should reliably cool our food. Sometimes, however, water starts to collect in it. Before deciding to call a specialist, it is worth trying to solve this problem yourself.

Water is collecting in the refrigerator - How to solve this problem?

The problem of collecting water most often concerns refrigerators without a No Frost system, which does not have humidity control or frost prevention. Water most often appears on the back wall and in the compartments.

The main culprit is usually a clogged defrost drain. It's a small hole connected to a drainage tube at the back of the refrigerator, above the vegetable drawer. The drain is designed to remove water from the refrigerator. Unfortunately, it is often clogged with deposits or food residues.

To unclog the drain, you need a condensate drain cleaner, usually included with every new refrigerator. Insert it gently into the drain to remove the obstruction. If you don't have one, you can use a thin wire. Never use toothpicks, as they can cause more harm than good.

What if the cleaner does not help?

You should use another method if the cleaner does not solve the problem. Prepare a solution of water and baking soda and inject it into the drain tube with a syringe. Perform this action very slowly until the water starts flowing into the drain pan. If this happens, it means that the hole has been appropriately unclogged.

Condensed water can also worsen the condition of the refrigerator door seal, making it porous and stiff. This, too, can be remedied.

If there are no holes, wash and dry it thoroughly. Then, lubricate the seal. Use an appropriate product or lip balm to increase flexibility and ensure better door closure.
