Heather is considered one of the symbols of autumn for a reason. After all, it is in this season that they captivate us with their beautiful flowers. How should you care for them properly? Just remember an important rule after purchasing them. They will reward you with beautiful flowers.

They are easy to cultivate and look beautiful in gardens and on windowsills. However, to bloom profusely, we need to provide them with the right conditions. We suggest what to focus on.

Caring for Heather – where to start?

Many people have already started looking for new autumn flowers. Heather has gained huge popularity for a reason, with early species starting to bloom by the end of August. By choosing them, we can be sure that when other plants have already withered, they will still delight us with their flowers.

When bringing home a new seedling, it is worth repotting it into a new, slightly larger pot or planting it in the garden immediately. Unfortunately, few people realize that flowers are often sold in too small pots.

Plants purchased from a garden store or a grower should be placed in a pot with a minimum diameter of 6 inches and equipped with drainage holes. The soil should have a pH between 3.5 and 5 and be acidic, humus-rich, and peat-based. It's worth spreading mulch on the surface, such as pine bark, sawdust, or pine needles.

How to care for Heather?

Heather loves slightly moist soil, so do not let it dry out. However, be careful not to overwater, as their roots are prone to rotting, so pouring too much water is not advisable. It's better to water them more frequently but not too heavily.

It's important to remember that heather is a perennial, so before the first hard frosts, it should be properly protected with winter agro textile and thoroughly watered. In the spring, the flowers should be pruned.
