On Wednesday, October 9th, Honda announced an official service campaign covering 2 million vehicles in North America. The issue involves difficulties in driving some units, which, in extreme cases, may lead to an accident.
The problem may occur in cars manufactured between 2022 and 2025, including models such as the Civic, CR-V, HR-V, and some Acura vehicles. Honda claims that since 2021, it has received as many as 10,328 warranty claims regarding this issue.
Among the cars affected by the service action, 1.7 million are in the United States, 240,000 in Canada, and 58,000 in Mexico. Their owners will be contacted to arrange service to resolve the issue.
According to an investigation launched by the NHTSA in 2023, Honda's steering gear may experience excessive friction, leading to unnatural resistance and jerky system operation. The repair involves replacing a spring used in the gear and possibly applying a new lubricant.
According to the NHTSA, the defect may be linked to as many as thirteen accidents in the United States. However, there is no information on the extent of injuries or fatalities.
