The sofa is an integral part of most living rooms. Because it is one of the most frequently used pieces of furniture, its upholstery quickly gets dirty, requiring regular cleaning. Although many specialized cleaning agents are available on the market, it is worth knowing a simple home method that will help refresh the upholstery in just 20 minutes.

Homemade upholstery cleaning solution

Experts recommend washing the sofa at least once every six months. Regular cleaning maintains the upholstery's aesthetic appearance and removes allergens, dust mites, and bacteria that may accumulate in the fabric.

Cleaning the sofa does not have to be time-consuming or expensive. All you need is a homemade upholstery cleaner, which you can prepare with just three ingredients available in every kitchen.

To prepare a homemade sofa cleaner, you need:

  • 10 millilitres of baking soda,
  • Juice squeezed from one lemon,
  • Almost 2 litres of lukewarm water.

Baking soda has stain-removing and odour-neutralizing properties, while lemon juice has antibacterial and refreshing effects. Combined with water, they create an effective cleaning agent that can handle most dirt.

How to clean upholstery in 20 minutes?

In a bowl, mix water, baking soda, and lemon juice until all ingredients are dissolved. Then, dip a soft cloth in the prepared solution and wring it out well so that it is slightly damp but not wet.

Wipe the upholstery with the cloth, focusing on stains and dirt. Use circular motions to gently remove dirt from the fabric without disturbing its structure.

After cleaning the sofa, let it dry. If you want a quicker effect, you can use a fan or open a window to speed up the entire process.
