A croissant plus coffee is a favourite breakfast for the French and Italians. We like this custom too. Nutritionists have their opinions on it, but you can indulge in such a sweet start to the day occasionally. A croissant with delicious pistachio filling also works well as a dessert.

What to do to prevent puff pastry from crumbling?

Making puff pastry from scratch, from which delicate croissants are made, is quite a culinary challenge. Therefore, it is worth having a stock of ready-made dough in the refrigerator and making it in literally a few minutes. When buying it, it is worth noting that it contains as much butter as possible. Although this croissant method is very quick, it is good to take the dough out of the refrigerator earlier, ideally at least 15 minutes before baking. Then, it won't crumble during rolling.

The trend of pistachios has not bypassed croissants. These green nuts are in many desserts. And that's good because pistachios are not only delicious but also healthy. They have many vitamins, protein, and fibre. They also contain a lot of fat, but these are monounsaturated fatty acids. They have a beneficial effect on the heart and the circulatory system. To prepare a dessert with these nuts, you don't have to grind them laboriously. Even in every discount store, we can get pistachio creams that are great for desserts, pancakes, and waffles. It's worth choosing those based on nuts with few additional ingredients. Avoid creams with artificial colourings, preservatives, and high amounts of sugar.

You can start making croissants when you have puff pastry and pistachio cream. 15 minutes of work, and after half an hour, you can invite your household for a delicious dessert.

  • Package of puff pastry,
  • 3 tablespoons of pistachio cream,
  • 2 tablespoons of finely chopped pistachios.

Additionally:

  1. Remove the puff pastry from the refrigerator beforehand. After about 15 minutes, unfold it and cut it into strips along the longer side. Roll it out slightly. Cut each of the strips into triangles.
  2. Place about 1 teaspoon of cream at the base of each triangle. Roll starting from the base to the tip.
  3. Place the croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush them with beaten egg yolk.
  4. Put the baking sheet in an oven preheated to 200°C and bake the croissants for about 15 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown.
  5. It is best to let them cool with the oven door slightly ajar.
