A little patience and a good blender are needed to create homemade halva with the perfect consistency and taste surpassing store-bought versions.

Ingredients:

  • 300 grams of hulled sunflower seeds,
  • 100-115 grams of liquid honey.

Preparation:

  1. I roast the sunflower seeds in a dry pan until they take on a light golden colour and start releasing a rich, nutty aroma.
  2. After roasting, I set them aside to cool.
  3. Once cooled, I transfer them to a high-powered blender and grind them into a fine paste. If I want to achieve an even smoother consistency, I use a coffee grinder.
  4. I add liquid honey to the ground seeds and mix thoroughly until the mixture becomes a uniform, pliable mass.
  5. I transfer the ready mixture into a mold lined with plastic wrap, pressing firmly to shape it well.
  6. I place the halva in the refrigerator for a few hours, or preferably overnight, to achieve the desired texture.
  7. After chilling, I cut it into slices and serve.

How to enhance the flavour of homemade halva?

The basic version of halva is delicious on its own, but it can be easily enriched with additional flavours. Here are a few ideas:

  • A touch of vanilla or rum extract can give halva a sophisticated character.
  • Chopped walnuts, almonds, or dried fruits will enrich the texture and nutritional value of the dessert.
  • Cocoa will give the halva a delicate chocolate flavour.
  • Cinnamon or cardamom will add an oriental note.
