Homemade chicken burgers with the perfect bun, recipe revealed
Burgers are one of the most popular fast foods in the world. In a homemade version, however, they become more than just a bun with a patty. Since I first served cheesy onion chicken burgers, no one has wanted to hear about ordering this dish.

Soft buns, juicy chicken breast patties, a bit of lettuce, and your favourite sauce—these burgers are simply impossible not to like. They look great and taste even better. They are perfect for a warm dinner, a party snack, or an unusual hot lunch. Their secret is good bread. Finding the ideal base in the store can be challenging, so I bake the buns myself at home. They are soft and fluffy, and with the toppings, they create a delicious whole.
Chicken burgers in homemade buns
My secret in this recipe is the perfect bun topped with herb cream cheese. This simple addition enhances the flavour and adds an interesting note to the whole dish. You have to watch the buns before preparing the burger - they taste so good that they disappear before the toppings appear.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour,
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt,
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil,
- 1 teaspoon dried yeast,
- 2/3 cup warm water,
- 1 large onion,
- 3 ounces grated mozzarella,
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper,
- 1 teaspoon salt,
- herb cream cheese,
- 1 onion,
- 3 ounces mozzarella.
Chicken patties:
- 1 large chicken breast,
- 2/3 cup plain yogurt,
- 2 tablespoons chicken seasoning,
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour,
- 2 eggs.
Additions:
- 4 leaves green lettuce,
- 3 1/2 ounces favourite sauce.
Instructions:
Step 1. In a bowl, I sift the flour, add the dried yeast, salt, vegetable oil, plain yogurt, and warm water, and knead a uniform dough. It's easiest to do this with a kitchen mixer with a hook, but it can also be done by hand without any problems. I transfer the dough to a bowl, cover it, and set it aside to rise for 2 hours.
Step 2. I cut the chicken breast into smaller pieces and flatten them with a meat tenderizer. I mix the eggs with plain yogurt and my favourite chicken seasoning in a bowl. I dip the pieces of meat in the resulting marinade and mix them to be well-covered. I set them aside in the refrigerator.
Step 3. I divide the risen dough into smaller parts. I form a ball from a piece of dough, then flatten it in my hands and spread it with herb cream cheese.
Step 4. I finely chop the onion and add grated mozzarella, pepper, and salt. I mix thoroughly. I dip half of the previously prepared buns in the onion mixture so that it sticks to the cream cheese spread on the dough.
Step 5. I line a baking sheet with parchment paper. I place a disk of dough with just the cream cheese on it and the dough with the addition of onion on it. I put it in an oven preheated to 175°C and bake for 20 minutes.
Step 6. I coat the marinated pieces of chicken in all-purpose flour and fry them in moderately deep, heated oil until they brown. I cut the baked and cooled buns in half, add a lettuce leaf, my favourite sauce, and a piece of chicken, cover with the other half of the bun, and serve to my loved ones. Bon appétit!
