High school scandal in Cape Town: Racist 'auction' shocks community
White students from a high school in South Africa humiliated their Black peers in a racist manner. They locked them in cages and pretended to auction them as slaves. They recorded everything and posted it on social media.
The incident happened in Cape Town. The scandal was exposed by the mother of one of the students who became a victim of this "game."
"They were picking up black boys and putting them in the cage. It’s not like they went willingly." They started bidding, with prices starting at 100,000 rand (about CAD 5,400 - ed.). Those 'sold' were dragged out of the cage and forced to stand by their 'owner,' described the woman in an interview with eNCA.
A psychologist attended to the humiliated students. The students who orchestrated this hell for their peers may be suspended. Teachers' unions and the parents of the victims are demanding it.
Racist incidents in South Africa
A race-based incident also occurred last week at a prestigious girls' school in Pretoria, South Africa. Black students accused their white classmates of creating a group on a popular messenger app where racist comments about them were posted.
According to a survey conducted by UNICEF, about 68 percent of young people in South Africa stated that discrimination due to skin colour is an inherent part of their lives. They encounter it both at school and work.
