Hezbollah launches rocket barrage at Israel in escalating conflict

On Saturday evening, the Lebanese organization Hezbollah announced that it had fired dozens of rockets toward Israel, according to the AFP agency. According to the Israeli army, approximately 30 rockets were fired, most of which were intercepted. There are no reports of casualties.

This attack was said to be in response to recent Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon and as an expression of solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to Hezbollah's statement. It was also mentioned that the settlement of Beit Hillel in northern Israel was added to the list of targets.

Hezbollah, which controls southern Lebanon and is supported by Iran, has regularly shelled northern Israel since the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip in autumn 2023, which in turn led to Israeli military responses.

The Middle East is burning

In recent days, tensions in the Middle East have significantly escalated after Israel killed Hezbollah military commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut. At the same time, Hamas political leader Ismail Haniya was killed in Tehran.

Hezbollah, Iran, and Hamas have vowed revenge for these attacks. Concerns are, therefore, growing that any retaliatory strike could deepen existing tensions and lead to open warfare on a new front in the conflict between Israel and Iran and its allies.
