Healthy alternatives to pork cutlets and fries revealed

Nutritionists emphasize the importance of proportions when composing a dinner plate. A breaded pork cutlet should occupy no more than a quarter of the plate's surface. Half is reserved for vegetables, and the remaining quarter is for carbohydrates to provide daily energy. Many people serve pork cutlets with fries, but I have several much better suggestions.

Breaded pork cutlet and classic deep-fried fries are the worst possible choice. Even for healthy individuals, such a combination can cause stomach pain, and it is absolutely forbidden for older people. A large amount of saturated fats dangerously raises cholesterol levels, increasing the risk of a heart attack.

Pork cutlet, new potatoes, and cucumber salad

If you haven't tried this combination, you're truly missing out. Instead of fries, serve pork cutlets with new potatoes. Sprinkled with fresh dill, they pair exceptionally well with a cucumber salad made from fresh cucumbers and Greek yogurt. This is a much healthier alternative to dishes fried in deep fat.

Rice, groats, or perhaps risotto?

Not sure what to serve with pork cutlet? Go for seasonal vegetables. Both pumpkin and wild mushrooms work great in a risotto or the less popular—but much more nutritious—groatsotto, which is made with barley or buckwheat groats. The plate is perfectly complemented by an arugula and cherry tomato salad.

Pork cutlet and oven fries

If you can't imagine a meal other than pork cutlet with fries, try preparing them in a healthier way. The easiest way to achieve a similar effect is in the oven. Yes, even breaded pork cutlets can be made this way.

How to make pork cutlets in the oven?

First, beat and season the cutlets, then coat them successively in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs. To make them crunchier, you can use crushed cornflakes or a mix of wheat and sunflower seeds instead of breadcrumbs.

Place the prepared cutlets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, then put them in an oven preheated to 200°C for about 15-20 minutes.

Oven fries - not just from potatoes

In the oven, you can make fries not only from potatoes but also from sweet potatoes, celery, or pumpkin. Pumpkin fries taste great when seasoned with smoked paprika and dipped in homemade garlic sauce. If you coat them in olive oil with spices before putting them in the oven, they will be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
