As the presidential elections in the United States approach, representatives from both camps express confidence. Democrats are counting on the voting influence of women and a well-organized election strategy, while Republicans bank on the relevance of immigration issues and the mistakes made by their opponents.
Meanwhile, the results of a new poll have been released. The survey was conducted in Nevada, a key battleground state.
Harris ahead of Trump, but the lead is minor
According to the new Emerson College Polling/RealClearWorld survey, 48 per cent of respondents support Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential elections, while 47 per cent back former President Donald Trump.
Two per cent remain undecided, and one per cent do not plan to vote for either candidate.
After considering the preferences of undecided individuals, overall support for Harris rises to 49 per cent, and for Trump to 48 per cent.
Women versus men
"Men and women in Nevada are heading in almost opposite directions," said Spencer Kimball, Executive Director of Emerson College Polling.
Among men, 52 per cent support the Republican candidate, while 43 per cent favour the Democratic candidate. Conversely, 52 per cent of women indicate they will vote for Kamala Harris, while 44 per cent lean towards Donald Trump.
What do voters want?
The poll also asked residents about their priorities when choosing a president. For 40 per cent of Nevada voters, the economy is the top concern, followed by housing affordability (13 per cent), immigration (12 per cent), threats to democracy (9 per cent), and education (9 per cent).
Interestingly, just over half—54 per cent—disapprove of Joe Biden's performance as president, while 36 per cent express satisfaction.
