Vice President Kamala Harris has regained a slight lead over Donald Trump among potential voters nationwide, ABC News reports, citing the latest poll commissioned by the network. However, the presidential race remains close enough that the final outcome is still uncertain, due to the nature of voting in the USA through the Electoral College.
As ABC News notes, turnout will play a crucial role. Among all registered voters, the difference between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump is only 2 percentage points, 49-47%.
"This goes to a slight Harris advantage among likely voters, 51-47%, with some pro-Harris groups showing a bit more propensity to vote," ABC News emphasizes.
ABC News analyzes the poll results. Compared to the previous poll from the beginning of the month, Kamala Harris has regained the typical Democratic lead among Latinos and expanded her lead among suburban women while maintaining strong support among core groups, such as African Americans. Trump, on the other hand, is gaining support in rural areas and among white men without higher education, also achieving competitive results among younger men.
Polls do not indicate a favourite
Two other polls published on Friday show that the electorate in the USA has still not decided whom to entrust with the presidency in the November elections. National surveys by the New York Times/Siena College and CNN resulted in a tie. In two others, the Democrat slightly prevailed.
