Greek breakfast is a celebration of simplicity. It's perfect for days when you don't have much time to decide what to eat for your first or second meal of the day. The foundation of this breakfast is thick Greek yogurt, rich in protein and probiotics. In addition, it includes nuts, one of the best sources of healthy fats in the diet. To sweeten your morning, you can add honey, preferably from a good local apiary. Every ingredient in this breakfast is a treasure trove of nutrients, and their combination provides the energy for a good morning.

Greeks, much like Italians, don't place much emphasis on breakfast, focusing instead on afternoon meals. However, this doesn't mean they leave home with a rumbling stomach. A typical Greek breakfast consists of thick yogurt, honey, and nuts. People usually prefer this bowl during summer when the heat is intense, reducing the appetite and the desire to prepare something cooked, especially fried food.

This meal has everything you need. From yogurt, you get protein and calcium; from nuts, you get healthy unsaturated fats; from honey, you get antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties; and from fruits, you get vitamins and polyphenols. You can also add oatmeal, chia seeds, or flaxseed to the yogurt to increase fibre content.

The recipe for such a breakfast is really simple. It's perfect when you're in a morning rush and don't have time.

Ingredients:

  • 150 grams of thick natural Greek yogurt,
  • 2 tablespoons of good quality honey (e.g., thyme, chestnut, or multi-flower),
  • 30 grams of walnuts,
  • seasonal fruits (optional).

Preparation:

  1. Place the Greek yogurt in a bowl.
  2. Add honey and mix until uniform in consistency.
  3. Top with chopped walnuts and fresh fruits.
