The Air India flight, travelling from New York to Delhi, had to make an emergency landing in Moscow due to the sudden health decline of a passenger.
According to details from the Russian news channel Mash, the incident happened mid-flight when a passenger, approximately in his 60s, fell ill. The man required immediate medical attention.
Efforts to save a life on the plane end with landing in Russia
The Air India crew promptly initiated medical assistance, starting resuscitation efforts to stabilize the passenger's condition. Intense rescue efforts continued for several hours, with the onboard team doing everything they could to save the man's life. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, they were unable to save the 60-year-old passenger.
Consequently, the decision was made to perform an emergency landing at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow, where medical personnel were waiting on-site. Upon landing, the passenger's death was confirmed, and it was revealed that he held dual citizenship—both Indian and American.
While the initial suspicion is that the man's death might have been caused by a heart attack, the possibility of poisoning is also being considered, although this is yet to be verified. An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances of this tragic incident.
The Mash channel highlights the necessity for a detailed investigation into the passenger's cause of death to clear up any uncertainties. Airport authorities and the airline are collaborating with law enforcement to resolve all aspects of this situation as efficiently as possible.
