The tourist from the Netherlands was renting a room in Bali, spending her time doing yoga. Recently, her financial situation significantly worsened, allegedly leaving her without money for food.

In the Netherlands, the woman is registered as unemployed and receives benefits due to health issues. Her government pays her €1,400 (CAD 2,100) monthly. However, she ran out of money early and secretly decided to have breakfast at a five-star hotel.

Her attempt to enjoy a complimentary breakfast did not go unnoticed by the hotel staff. The manager offered to resolve the situation without involving the police, but the tourist could not cover the costs. Consequently, the police were called to the scene, and the Dutch citizen was taken to an immigration centre.

She was deported after more than three weeks. In the meantime, the Bali authorities placed her on the tourist blacklist, preventing future visits to the paradise island.

We continue to strive for safety and order, ensuring the deportation process follows procedures. We urge all foreigners living in Indonesia to always comply with the applicable laws and regulations to avoid legal issues - said the head of the Bali Denpasar Immigration Detention Centre in a conversation with the media.
