Ducati unveils DesertX discovery: Rugged performance for adventurers
Ducati delights in creating multiple versions of their motorcycles to fill every niche. This is true for the Multistrada V4, available in six variations. The Italians are applying a similar approach to the more off-road-oriented DesertX model. The Discovery version is intended for long journeys over rough terrain.

For years, the more asphalt-focused Multistrada has represented Ducati's broadly understood adventure segment. It’s no wonder, then, that with the growing popularity of this class of motorcycles, the Italians created the DesertX model. At first glance, the tall machine was designed with off-road in mind. Of course, asphalt touring is also possible, but in this regard, the aforementioned Multistrada is a better choice. However, if we intend to leave the paved road, the DesertX should be the pick.
Until now, we only had two options. The newer one is the Rally version, which, as the name implies, was created for off-road fun. On the other hand, the standard DesertX required the addition of a considerable number of elements—whether it be panniers or guards to protect the motorcycle during long trips. Now, the Discovery version has appeared in the lineup, which already comes equipped with everything needed.
What makes the Ducati DesertX Discovery stand out? Apart from the mentioned panniers, it also features reinforced hand guards and expanded body tubing. There's a larger engine guard that also protects the water pump. The radiator is also protected from damage (e.g., by rocks kicked up from the front wheel). In terms of comfort, the motorcycle is standardly equipped with heated grips and a taller windshield that provides better wind protection, something that can surely be appreciated on longer routes.
The powertrain remains unchanged, which means a twin-cylinder Testatretta V-engine with a capacity of 937cc. Its maximum power is 110 hp, and torque is 68 lb-ft.
