Unpleasant odours from the drain can have various sources. Often, they are caused by food residues or coffee grounds. Even an accidental entry of these materials into the pipes can lead to rotting and generate an unpleasant smell.

Regular cleaning and avoiding the build-up of leftovers in the sink are effective ways to prevent such situations. However, a moment of inattention is enough for the problem to return. Fortunately, even then, we can use simple home remedies to save the drain and neutralize unwanted odours.

How to clean the drain?

If we want to avoid chemical detergents, which can be expensive and harmful to our health, it's worth using natural ways to clean the drain. One recommended method is using vinegar combined with baking soda.

Just pour half a cup of baking soda into half a cup of vinegar, then pour everything into the drain and allow it to work. This mixture not only eliminates harmful microorganisms but also effectively removes unpleasant odours for a long time. To maintain this effect, it's worth repeating the treatment weekly.

Unpleasant odour from the drain - how to overcome it?

When we replace baking soda with salt, the process is just as simple. Boil water in a kettle, then pour half a cup of salt into the drain and rinse it with boiling water. Hot water with salt will help remove debris lingering in the pipes, making the unpleasant odours disappear.

If that's not enough, you can also boil water with vinegar and wash the drain with this mixture, which is also effective in removing residues and rotting debris in the pipes.
