Cottage cheese patties: The nutritious twist to dinner

Cottage cheese is a versatile ingredient in the kitchen. However, many people still use it only for sandwiches, not realizing how many other dishes can be made with it. Meanwhile, this high-protein addition with its characteristic granules can enrich traditional dishes with valuable nutrients. One of the many options is cottage cheese patties with boiled eggs—a perfect choice for a vegetarian dinner.

These patties have many great qualities. Cottage cheese provides protein and calcium, both of which are necessary for building muscles and healthy bones. Eggs are rich in vitamins and healthy fatty acids. Oatmeal provides B-group vitamins, minerals, and fibre, which support proper intestinal function. Combining these ingredients creates a nutritious meal that keeps you feeling full for a long time.

Fried patties or the oven version?

If you are limiting fried foods, place the patties covered in breadcrumbs in the oven. Put them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at a temperature of 180 degrees Celsius. After 10 minutes, carefully flip them to the other side using a metal spatula. Bake until golden brown for another 5 to 10 minutes.

Recipe for cottage cheese patties

Besides cottage cheese, you will also need oatmeal and six hard-boiled eggs to make the patties. Instant oats are the easiest to use, as they soften after 2 to 3 minutes. Boil the eggs, cool them, and peel off the shells.

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of cottage cheese (200 grams),
  • 1 raw egg,
  • 50 grams of instant oats,
  • 6 hard-boiled eggs,
  • half a teaspoon of salt,
  • a pinch of pepper,
  • a handful of fresh herbs - such as parsley, dill, chives, or cilantro,
  • 100 grams of breadcrumbs,
  • oil for frying,
  • optional: 1 tablespoon of mustard or olive oil.

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix cottage cheese with the raw egg and oats, and set aside for 5 minutes.
  2. Grate the hard-boiled eggs using a coarse grater or mash them with a fork. Add to the cottage cheese mixture and mix well.
  3. Add half a teaspoon of salt, a pinch of pepper, and chopped herbs. Add a tablespoon of mustard or olive oil if the mixture is too dry and won't stick.
  4. Form the mixture into patties with your hands. To prevent the mixture from sticking to your hands, you may want to wet them with water.
  5. Coat in breadcrumbs and fry until golden brown in a pan with heated oil.
  6. Place the finished patties on a paper towel to drain the excess oil.
