Ceasefire sparks hope as Gaza and Tel Aviv residents rejoice

Thousands of residents in Gaza and Tel Aviv are celebrating in the streets over the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, report AFP and Associated Press. The agreement was confirmed by Hamas and representatives of Qatar, who were mediators in the talks. Times of Israel reports that Israel is finalizing the last details of the deal.

According to Associated Press and AFP, the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is becoming a reality. It includes the release of hostages kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023. Representatives of Qatar, who mediated the talks, and Hamas have confirmed the agreement. It will end the 15-month-long bloody Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The Israeli government has not yet commented on these reports. Nevertheless, Times of Israel, citing "a high-ranking Israeli official familiar with the negotiations," stated that Hamas has "yielded" on demands regarding the Philadelphi Corridor. It was noted that there are still some details to be worked out.

American correspondent for Times of Israel, Jacob Magid, reported on the platform X that the announcement of the ceasefire by politicians is a matter of "a few hours." He cited representatives of the US and Saudi Arabian governments involved in peace talks.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) did not respond to reports of the ceasefire. On Tuesday, January 14, they published a post on platform X stating that Hamas militants will not stop even at placing rocket launchers in a coffin.

US President-elect Donald Trump and his forming administration claimed credit for the agreement. "This EPIC ceasefire agreement could have only happened as a result of our Historic Victory in November, as it signaled to the entire World that my Administration would seek Peace and negotiate deals to ensure the safety of all Americans, and our Allies.," Trump wrote on the platform Truth Social. He assured that as soon as he returns to the White House, the world can expect more such "victories." His inauguration will take place on January 20.
