Catholic bishops call for human rights focus in U.S. election
Archbishop Timothy Broglio, chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, expressed hope for a president who "will respect human rights and the dignity of the human person, implement policies to protect the poorest, and find a solution to the issue of migrants" in an interview with the Italian channel Canale 5.

The American Catholic Church hopes that the presidential elections will be won by a candidate who "will respect human rights, the dignity of the human person, implement policies to protect the poorest, and find a solution to the issue of migrants."
Archbishop Broglio emphasized that the migration problem in the United States "has become troubling."
"We have to act on this matter"
- As the American Church, we have always said that we should consider a law concerning migrants that will be just. We have to act on this matter. So many people are being forced to move, and we need to ensure the problem is resolved in their countries. We can do something - emphasized Archbishop Broglio.
He added that the economic situation in the USA also raises concern. - We always insist on the dignity of the human person and the dignity of life from conception to natural death. We said that this is our main concern. We are always looking for a solution that will respect life - he said, referring to the issue of abortion.
"We don't give recommendations"
When asked about which candidate the Catholic electorate should vote for, he replied: "It's very difficult. We, as the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, but also individually as bishops, have never given any voting recommendations. I believe that every American should go vote according to their conscience, see what both candidates say, and make the right choice."
