John Tinniswood, currently the oldest man in the world and one of the longest-living Britons in history, celebrated his 112th birthday on Monday, August 26. On this occasion, he was asked about the secret to his longevity.

John Tinniswood was born in Merseyside in northern England on August 26, 1912—the same year the Titanic sank.

During the birthday party, he was asked about the secret to his longevity.

I can’t think of any special secrets I have. I was quite active as a youngster, I did a lot of walking. Whether that had something to do with it, I don’t know - he said. - You either live long or you live short, and you can’t do much about it - he emphasized.

Experts: There is no single recipe for longevity

When asked about his diet, he admitted that he eats fish and chips every Friday, but he doesn’t follow any particular diet.

There is often a belief that a specific habit or lifestyle determines longevity. For example, Maria Branyas Morera, until recently the oldest person in the world, maintained that she owed her long life to a positive attitude and avoiding toxic people.

According to experts, there is no single recipe for longevity. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Prof. Richard Faragher, an expert in the science of aging from the University of Brighton, points to two possible causes: an exceptional set of genes and a positive attitude towards life.

Professor Faragher also emphasizes the role of healthy eating and regular physical activity. Giving up excessive alcohol consumption and unhealthy food could prove to be an effective way to maintain health and longevity.

John Tinniswood currently lives in a care home in Southport. He has been retired for over half a century.
