Police in Montenegro have detained a 36-year-old Russian man. According to local media, the man attempted to set a woman on fire on a yacht. The victim informed the police that the man beat her and doused the cabin of the boat with gasoline.

Terrifying scenes in Tivat in Montenegro, located in the famous Bay of Kotor — this small Balkan country's most renowned tourist attraction.

Local media reported that a 36-year-old Russian citizen attempted to murder the woman. How he tried to achieve this is horrifying. The man first threatened the woman, then repeatedly struck her on the head, and finally doused the yacht's cabin, in which he locked the defenceless Russian woman with gasoline. The man likely planned to set the boat on fire and thus take the victim’s life.

The victim, however, managed to contact the police. She reported that the 36-year-old wanted to murder her. The Russian man, identified as V.D. from his initials, was detained by law enforcement. Rescue and medical services also participated in the operation. Officers interviewed several witnesses of the incident.

V.D. was found to have alcohol in his system. A case has been opened against him in connection with suspicions of committing domestic violence or violence within the family or community, stated the officers in a communication.

There are many Russians in Montenegro. This tiny country is exceptionally lenient in terms of entry laws for its citizens. Many Russians came here after the mobilization in September of last year.

Russians can live in this beautiful, tiny country for many years if they do not exceed the 30-day single-stay period. However, leaving Montenegro even for a moment is enough for them to be able to continue their stay.

Some have seized the opportunity and run businesses, offering trips literally beyond Montenegro’s border, for example, to Bosnia. These trips can last a moment and can also be combined with sightseeing or wine tasting. Then, Russians return to Montenegro and can stay without any issues.
