On July 20th, a bridge collapsed in the Republic of Buryatia, located in Siberia. According to local media, the road between the villages of Turan and Shinki towards Mongolia is completely inaccessible.
Heavy rains in the mountains caused the failure, significantly raising the water levels in the Zanginsan and Kirenka rivers. Social media footage from the region shows several people and cars. The footage also shows sunken asphalt and broken roads in several locations.
As a result, residents of the administrative centre of the Tunkinsky district have been cut off from the rest of the region. This means that some residents will not be able to use the connection to the popular Mongolian city of Khatgal among Russians, where the heavily frequented Lake Khövsgöl is located.
According to the Kommersant portal, federal specialists were supposed to assess the damage at the site. Plans include filling the approaches to the bridge with rocky soil. The work will involve 20 dump trucks, two front loaders, and one excavator. Heavy equipment must be brought in from districts more than 62 miles away.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Buryatia added that no alternative road exists. The Buryatia Prosecutor's Office organized an inspection concerning the bridge collapse.
Another collapsed bridge in Russia
This is not the first such case in Russia. In April, an overpass connecting Russia with Belarus collapsed in the town of Vyazma in the Smolensk region. In the Republic of Dagestan, mud formed due to bad weather destroyed a road bridge.
A well-known Ukrainian politician posted the footage on social media. From his post, it can be inferred that he does not foresee a quick structure reconstruction.
PAnton Gerashchenko, former Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs harshly assessed that Putin prefers to spend money on murders rather than improving the lives of his citizens.
A few days ago, a bridge on a highway in Shangluo, Shaanxi province, China, collapsed due to a heavy downpour and flood.
