At least 18 people died when a bus carrying wedding guests fell into the Indus River in northern Pakistan. There were about 25 people in the vehicle.

The search operation is ongoing, but difficult terrain conditions are hindering it.

Wedding guests perished. The bride was saved

Local authorities reported that only one woman was successfully rescued and transported to the hospital. The "Dawn" newspaper portal, citing rescue team members, stated that the survivor is the bride.

Videos recorded by accident witnesses and of the ongoing search operation have surfaced online.

President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari expressed condolences to the families of the victims of this tragedy. The causes of the accident are not yet known.

Road accidents in Pakistan are unfortunately common due to poorly developed infrastructure, disregard for traffic regulations, and low safety standards.

The Gilgit-Baltistan region is characterized by difficult mountainous terrain, where roads are narrow and poorly maintained, and the weather is variable. These factors increase the risk of accidents. In August, 36 people died and dozens were injured in two separate bus accidents.
