Brangelina offered $60M to reunite on screen amidst divorce
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie received an offer for a high salary if they agree to star together in a film, despite an ongoing volatile divorce for the past eight years.
Producer Danny Rossner, known for films like the parody "2001: A Comic Odyssey" with Leslie Nielsen and "The Ultimate Weapon" with Hulk Hogan, claims he has raised about $60 million for the production that aims to bring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie into one project.
Rossner has supposedly been working on the film for over 20 years and intends to cast Pitt and Jolie in the lead roles. It will be a love story set during World War II in Cannes, France. Pitt would play the owner of Hotel Martinez, Emmanuel Martinez, while Jolie would play his lover and muse, Emma Digard.
The script outlines that the actors would have to appear together in intimate scenes. "There is a love scene … It’s a torrid one, too. It’s not salacious but there are very heavy love scenes. [Martinez] had a wife and he had a mistress," Rossner said.
Rossner plans to offer both actors compensation 50% higher than their standard rates. This means about $37.5 million for Pitt and $22 million for Jolie. However, the disparity in salaries could be an additional hurdle in negotiations.
Despite the lucrative offer, the possibility of the couple agreeing to star together is slim. Since 2016, Pitt and Jolie have been embroiled in a challenging divorce process, including disputes over child custody, asset division, and the future of their shared winery.
Evidence of how much the couple wants nothing to do with each other is that in September, the organizers of the Venice Film Festival had to ensure that Pitt and Jolie's films were shown on different days. "There is no way that they can cross each other at the Lido," artistic director Alberto Barbera told "Vanity Fair."
When asked why he's so adamant about casting the former couple in his film, Rossner replied, "Guaranteed success if they come on." He admitted that Jolie and Pitt's involvement would generate more revenue than any other couple worldwide. "There’s not even a second place. It’s a slam dunk with them," he stated.
The love story
Pitt and Jolie, once dubbed "Brangelina," met in 2004 on the set of the film "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." They have six children: Maddox (23 years old), Pax (21), Zahara (19), Shiloh (18), and twins Knox and Vivienne (16). After the breakup, the children stayed with their mother, and some of them have removed Pitt's last name.
Jolie hasn't been in a serious relationship since their split, whereas Pitt has been dating jewellery designer Ines De Ramon.
